Cusco’s Amazon forests

Tambopata National Reserve

The Tambopata National Reserve, together with the adjacent Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, forms an immense area (3,000,000 acres) of sub-tropical rainforest under the protection of the Peruvian government. And with the establishment of the Madidi National Park in Bolivia, Tambopata is now part of a cross border park system which is the largest area of protected tropical forest on the South American continent..

The many studies made of the fauna and flora along the Tambopata River reveal an incredible abundance of life forms. The ecosystems in this part of southeast Peru are the most diverse on the planet, meaning that within the territory of the Libertador Tambopata Eco-Lodge there are limitless opportunities to observe the tropical rainforest and its wildlife.

Libertador Tambopata Eco-Lodge
The Libertador Tambopata Eco-Lodge is situated on the banks of the Tambopata River in the heart of the reserve, and the remoteness and tranquillity of the lodge make for a richly rewarding visit to the rainforest.  But, with a location of approximately only four hours from Cusco (a half hour scheduled flight, transfer to the port, and three hours by boat to the lodge) it is one of the most accessible rainforest destinations in Latin America. There are daily commercial flights to/from Cusco (30 min.) and to/from Lima (2 hrs.). The proximity of the Tambopata National Reserve to Cusco, Machu Picchu and Lima assures a rewarding visit to excellent rainforest habitat without losing vacation time travelling.

About our Eco-Lodge

The Cloud Forest

What gives the Manu Biosphere Reserve its incredible biodiversity is the vast altitudinal range within its 1,800,000 hectares. As well as pristine Amazon lowland rainforest, Manu encompasses high altitude grasslands, cloud forest and high mountain forest.

The cloud forest is a dark, mysterious place of lush vegetation. Tree branches are festooned with epiphytes, bromeliads, giant ferns, mosses and orchids. As well as being home to many species of fauna and flora found in the lowland forests, such as woolly monkeys and brown capuchins, the cloud forest also supports many endemic species such as the spectacled bear, Peru’s national bird the cock-of-the-rock and the golden-headed quetzal, and it is this high level of endemism which makes this little-studied ecosystem of such vital importance in biological terms and of such interest to the visitor.

Manu Paradise Cloud Forest Lodge
Six hours by road from Cusco, and one hour from the Patria airstrip where light aircraft make the twenty-five minute flight to the Inca capital, the Paradise Lodge is nestled in the cloud forest between the Kosñipata and San Pedro rivers, with magnificent views of the endlessly varied green tones of the surrounding forest.

The lodge’s unique location between the high Andes and the tropical forest means we can offer our visitors a wide variety of activities, from mountain biking and canoeing to bird watching and hiking.

We offer 2, 3, 4 and 5 day programs, accessing the cloud forest overland along the spectacular road from Cusco or by light aircraft (a 25-minute flight).
