Once known as the “City of Kings”, Lima is now a bustling metropolis with some of the finest museums on the continent. South of the capital is the Paracas National Reserve – Peru’s only maritime national park. Continuing south through the wine-growing region of Ica we come to Nasca and its pre-Inca “lines”. In the elegant city of Arequipa the sun shines 362 days a year, while the condor still dominates the skies over the Colca Canyon. Cusco’s narrow streets reveal both its Inca and Spanish past, while the Sacred Valley takes us to Machu Picchu, that most splendid vestige of Inca culture.
